If Feminism was a Men's Movement...

What would our society look like if Feminism was a men's movement?

Let's take a stroll down imaginary lane...

Circumcision

Male genital mutilation (aka circumcision) is outlawed in Canada and the USA. If you take your son to another country to be circumcised, you will be charged upon returning to Canada.

The Criminal Code of Canada expressly spells out that any alteration of male genitals constitutes Aggravated Assault (section 268, Criminal Code of Canada)

Female circumcision (aka female genital mutilation), on the other hand, is a common procedure paid for by medical insurance.

Doctors routinely lie to parents about circumcision for girls. Doctors claim, "girls don't cry during the procedure", that girls "don't remember the pain", or that babies "don't feel pain". Doctors claim circumcised girls are "cleaner", and they "don't miss what they never had".

The clitoris is called an "evolutionary mistake" by well-funded think-tanks and foundations established to promote female circumcision worldwide. (reference)

Circumcision for girls is be prescribed as a cure for UTI, masturbation, and AIDS. (reference)

Infant girl's clitoris' are the only human tissue bought and sold without regulation, cultivated from unconsenting individuals. (reference)

Girl's clitoris' are used by the pharmaceutical industry to produce a vanity ointment for men, promoted by the most popular male talk show host. (a reference or two from among many).

Pedophilia tolerated, Emotional Incest = BAD!

The problem of children molested by men is little talked about. The harm caused by pedophilia is down-played. Most improper interactions between men and children are seen as "nurturing". (reference)

The epidemic of mothers emotionally feeding off their sons, however, justifies a society-wide witch-hunt.

A claim of emotional incest or abuse is easy to make, believed by default, and nearly impossible to disprove.

Most elementary teachers are men; women are routinely harassed by false claims of emotional abuse. Despite claims that children need female role models, most people believe it's "better to be safe than sorry" and remove women from the teaching profession. (reference 1, reference 2)

Young boys have the power to call down society's wrath upon any female teacher by claiming the teacher emotionally abused him.

The lack of female teachers is blamed on women viewing teaching as "men's work".

Men are exempt from scrutiny and are seen as paragons of virtue.

Men = good, women = bad.

Rape tolerated, Infanticide = BAD!

Rape is little-discussed and implicitly tolerated. Calls to prosecute rapists are countered by evidence that false accusations of rape are as high as 25-50%. "If we pursued rape more seriously, we would inevitably expose innocent men to the horror of being falsely accused."

Instead... the crime catching regular headlines is female infanticide and abortion.

Every miscarriage is investigated as the possible murder of a man's child.

In an attempt to stop innocent women from being routinely imprisoned and charged, marginalized women's advocates point out that scientific studies consistently show 25% of SIDS cases are accidental and not due to the mother killing their infant. (reference 1, reference 2 based on "Mother Nature" by Hrdy)

However, Academics in Men's Studies claim the figure for accidental SIDS is closer to 2% (because some guy in the 60's pulled the 2% figure out of his ass). Although the source of the 2% figure is disputed, the 2% figure is used to draft policy and law.

Child Support, Men's Right To Life

Following divorce, men and women leave the marriage with whatever property they brought into it. There is no alimony, palimony, or child support. Overwhelmingly (90%), men are granted sole custody of the children. Women seeking custody have to prove the father is grossly negligent or dangerous to his children in order to win custody.

When advocates point out the discrepancy in custody awards, Men's Studies rhetoric counters with "women don't want custody of the children".

By default, children are treated as property of their father. "My seed, my choice". Mothers are viewed as providing a temporary womb (for which they have to do nothing except eat and sleep). Following birth, Women are seen as unnecessary and possibly detrimental to the health and development of their children.

There are strict laws to ensure the safe birthing of every man's child, even if resulting from a one-night stand, the man lying about birth control, or rape.

Bureaucratic mistakes in enforcement of the "Men's Right To Life Act" occasionally force a woman to be artificially inseminated by, and give birth to a child for, a man she never met. (reference)

Any man can point his finger at any woman and claim the woman aborted his child. The woman is thrown in jail and, even if found innocent, is socially maligned for the rest of her life. She is added to a "child murderer" list and is forced to register with local authorities everywhere she lives for the rest of her life -- justified by men's need to know which women are liable to kill a man's child. (too many references... here's just one)

Women who complain about men's legal advantage in child-murder laws are shouted down: Men don't lie about infanticide. Not all men are like that.

Some women avoid men in order to limit their liability. These women are called paranoid, sexually inferior, and are told to just "find a good man".

Wage Gap = Lazy Selfish Women

Women are widely derided for earning only $0.75 to a man's dollar. Politicians regularly call for women to "own up to their obligations" to their country, their husband and their children, by earning a higher wage. Women who stay at home to raise children are considered selfish and lazy.

Academics in the Men's Studies department call for women to "woman up" by choosing better paying professions such as construction, the oil industry, mining, science and engineering.

"Secretarial and clerical work is a stepping stone, not a destination. Women who choose lower paying jobs are failing their families and society. These women should be ashamed of themselves."

Suicide

Despite women constituting 86% of suicide deaths, concern is exclusively for male suicide.

A recent article reads:

"As much as I would love to lead the charge (in finding out why girls kill themselves), try to go out and get funding for it," said Lanny Berman, the executive director of the American Association of Suicidology. He is frustrated that funders aren't interested in studying girls and women.

"If there is no research money available, no academician is going to go that route," he said. "As executive director, I have to pay attention to fundable projects."

So the association has an expert on male suicide but none on female suicide, even though suicide is an overwhelmingly a female issue well beyond adolescence.
